Summary: Finding their way.

Fraser leaned in and kissed the burgeoning smile, licking at it until Ray sighed into his mouth. "Ray, you must know it's not a matter of the shine having worn off or something ridiculous like that. There's something—we're not—it's as if we're at cross-purposes."

Ray tilted his head and then pulled Fraser back down to the bed. They lay there, shoulder to shoulder, and Ray said, "So, what's your purpose? Because mine was, pretty much, to have sex."

Learning to communicate with Ray in a whole new way is hard for Fraser and I can understand that. It's great to see him like this, to see that even though it takes a little prodding from Ray he gets what he wants in the end.

Summary: Ray thinks about making a mark

The first time Ray bought Fraser a bracelet, he really thought he'd done a good thing. Fraser gave him a hot look, and then he pushed up his sleeve and let Ray help him fasten the leather thong to his wrist, and then he gave Ray a still hotter kiss. On Fraser's naked, trembling body, the bracelet stood out like a beacon; Ray couldn't keep his mouth away from it. Even when they tumbled, exhausted, to sleep in Ray's bed, he found himself with his fingers tangled through it.

In the morning, Fraser put his uniform on and took the bracelet off, and Ray never saw it on him again.

[info]nos4a2no9 is a fantatsic reader. She *knows* Due South. She knows Ray and Fraser and how they speak and think and it's a pleasure listening to her.

Dear Ray:

I don't know how quickly mail travels between our two points, so I'm not sure if you possibly received my last letter and just didn't wish to respond. But, as I said, you might not want to, and that's fine.

I'm in my new quarters outside of Whitehorse. I can almost see the Alaskan border from here. Dief has been hunting rabbits in the thick snow—a welcome return, I think you'll agree, to his natural state.

Fraser writes letter after unanswered letter full of trivialities and nothingness until Ray, in his usual Rayish way barges right through to the heart of the matter. I loved the shift from Fraser's tentativeness to Ray's bluntness, it worked so well.

Summary: "Sh." Ray cups Fraser's chin in his hand and rubs Fraser's lips with his thumb. "No talking." He doesn't know why he's so sure; he only knows that it's key that they don't talk about it.

Still, the roast beef is good, and this year there's even an open bar. Ray figures they're trying to boost attendance at this shindig, because Welsh has made the annual CPD banquet mandatory for all the 2-7's detectives. "The Commissioner likes to come around, shake hands, feel like he knows people," Welsh had told them, eyes narrowing with threat. "So we're gonna be there, and we're going to be on our best behavior, people, okay? Be charming. Be polite. Don't be idiots." Welsh had stopped in front of Dewey and added, menacingly, "No spitting."

Dewey isn't spitting, but he's made a puppet out of a bread roll and two pats of butter. Apparently Dewey's idea of a good time is to make a bread-puppet talk trash in falsetto: "Get down on the floor, cocksucker," the bread puppet squeaks in its high-pitched voice. "Or I'll blow your fucking head off." Ray groans and slumps back in his chair. He's counting the minutes until it's over.

I love the bread puppets:)

I listened to this on a long bus ride in Egypt and it was so obscenely hot. I've read it before but for some reason the sex just hit me on a completely different level this time round. And let me tell you, sitting on a bus packed with senior citizens with a dumbstruck look of lust on my face was, at best, quite awkward.

Fraser gave the stiff equivalent of a shrug, then clapped his hands together. "What did you want to do whilst we were waiting?"

Ray opened his mouth to speak, but was cut off.

"Not that."

Ray gestured, his hands curving around.

"Definitely not that."

"How do you know what I'm saying if you don't even let me say it?"

"Elementary, my dear Ray; by the timbre of your voice and the swiftness of your actions."

I guess it's that time of year for some of you, isn't it? Halloween, which of course leads to Halloween fic.

It's a truly great writer that can combining smoking hot sex with great banter, all in the same scene.

"I don't want you to ask questions or try and talk me out of anything, okay? I just want yes or no, can you do that?" Ray's voice is low and tight like he's squeezing it out through a throat that's too small.

This is such a painful story to listen to. Fraser doesn't know what's going on and neither do we really...and more than that, Fraser doesn't know what to *do*. It's so horrible listening to his thoughts clash about what's right vs what Ray has told him he wants.

Summary: The snows came early that year.

Fraser moved as quickly as the wet, clinging snow would allow. The land gripped him tightly, clinging to his boots and slowing his passage through the deep snow. He knelt and dug frantically for a pulse, for a patch of skin, anything that would tell him if this was just another frozen body in a long chain of people he'd been too late to save but...there. A pulse, faint but present. He squinted in the darkness and tried to illuminate his survivor's face with the flashlight.

This is such a haunting and beautifully written story, Fraser is written with such steady gravity and grace.

[info]arrow00 is the reader here and you really have to hear her to believe it. What she adds to the telling of the story can't be explained. This isn't a happy story, not by a longshot but it's such an *experience*. I can't recomend it enough.

Summary: He came to the city on the trail of the killers of his father, and for reasons that will be elucidated, he didn't remain. Also, that there's a dog, okay?

"Yeah, whatever." The dino's screen flickered and wavered in the space over Ray's desk as he unrolled the keypad and started typing. "So Constable Mountie, good thing you decided to materialize here because my Lieutenant's got a bet going with the Cap that you were in fact quote the hallucinatory product of my mild-to-moderate concussion unquote, and also I need your particulars for the report." Ray scanned the floor around his desk for the Wailer's file which he'd dropped during that little demonstration of his superior agility and reflexes and said, "Oh, yeah, thanks," when the Mountie handed it to him. The screen was still flickering, so he had to bend down to jiggle a few connections. When he straightened, the Mountie was sitting in the chair across from him, looking at him through the data flow.

This story was great, like listening to one of those classic futuristic sci-fi novels. Oh, did I mention this is set in the future? It doesn't feel gimmiky or clunky, it's so well written, with so many little details that differentiate the world they're living in from the one *we* live in. But at the same time making it all feel very natural.

Salieri has managed to make Fraser even more of an isolated, tragic figure than the show and it's so *interesting* and there's *plot*. And most everyone from the show shows up, one way or another and it's great to see what she did with them.

Summary: Victoria's back. This is just cruel.

The next time she came to him, there were no games, no tricks. No elaborate plots. Fraser awoke tied to his cot, Victoria bending over him and already beginning.

Beginning to take.

I loved the whole thing with Victoria in the show, I thought it was romantic and tragic and terrible in all the best ways. If I ever feel like crying I'll put on the final scenes of 'Victoria's Secret' and it's guaranteed to make me sob like a little baby. In this story, it's a few years later and she's back. We get to see Fraser's trauma first hand, just how much she's always fucked him up.

Fraser is flushed from the heat, and he's staring over my shoulder because our faces are too close, and I hope to God he's working up some plan with that Great Brain of his right this second, because I'm about twenty away from throwing wood--of the mighty sycamore variety--and losing what's left of my dignity, not to mention the best friend I've ever had.

Early in his career, before he learned to be more circumspect about who he chose to take to bed, Fraser spent some time with a woman for whom speaking seemed to be an integral part of sex. "Oh, oh, oh," she would gasp as he thrust inside her, "oh yes, all right, that's it, oh yes, you big, dirty stallion!" Consequently, Fraser had spent many years believing that he preferred inarticulateness in his sexual partners. Certainly expression was part of a healthy sexual experience, but it seemed that enough could be conveyed by a few breathy moans and the judicious use of fingernails; mentions of animal husbandry were entirely unnecessary.

The only problem is, now that he's got him, how's he supposed to keep him? Ray, being Ray, has been so eye-on-the-prize up 'til now that he really hadn't planned that far ahead and, anyway, who'd've thought he'd actually succeed? That's crazy moon talk, right there. Sure, Ray played it cool last night, acting like he had a naked Mountie in his bed every day of the week. But the truth is Ray is scared beyond scared he's gonna mess this up.

Summary: Aside from the lack of communication, now that I’ve had a chance to experience death I find it not so very different from living in Canada.

Ray turned on him, credit all used up. “Then you’re blind as a doorpost, Fraser. She’s got it bad.”

“How can you be sure? She seems very resilient.”

“Trust me.” Ray looked him in the eye for just a second too long, and Fraser raised his eyebrows a little, his face suddenly intent. Shit. Ray’d known he’d regret this, but he hadn’t realized how soon. He was giving way too much away here. He blinked and looked away.

When Fraser spoke, his voice was bland. “No, tell me, Ray. How can I know when someone feels—that way—about me.”

Whoa! That swing from Frannie to someone—which meant, like, everyone—was a helluva jump. “In this city—” Ray bit his lip for a moment and thought about what he was saying, then figured in for a penny, in for a buck fifty. “In this city, Fraser, it’s like endemic. Like breathing. Someone’s talking to you, chances are they’re in love with you, okay?”
